How You Should Setup Your Domains on GrooveMember

I see people suggesting to have your root domain connected to GrooveMember – that too me is backwards.

I’m going to assume that you want to sell your course or membership, so you will need a website with a sales page right?

In order to do that, you would use GroovePages.

Therefore, you should have your sales page for your course or membership on your root domain.

Your root domain is something like: https://coursename.com

Because you can only have a root domain or subdomain connected to each app on Groove….

Your root domain should be ideally connected to GroovePages.

Which means, you need to create a subdomain for GrooveMember in order for people to login.

Suggested GrooveMember Domain Structure

  1. For course website and sales funnel pages: coursename.com (GroovePages app)
  2. For Membership login: members.coursename.com (GrooveMember – memberships app)
  3. For GrooveMember Portal login: portal.coursename.com (GrooveMember – portals app)

If you have multiple courses and would like to create a portal login to access all courses, create a portal login instead.

Before you implement this tutorial, I’m going to asssume that you have:

Otherwise, the rest of this training won’t make sense.

Connected your root domain already?

Then proceed with the steps below.

Creating GrooveMember Subdomain On Groove’s Servers

Going on the basis that you want to create a membership login URL, you would create a sub-domain and add it to Groove.

Here’s how you do this:

  • Login to Groove, click on the hamburger icon, my account and click on “Domains” tab
  • Click on “add domain” and type in: members.yourcoursename.com
  • Under “which app would you like to use this url for? select Groovemember [Membership]
  • Under “Would you like us to host your site for you?”, select “no thanks” because the root domain is already connected via GroovePages.
add subdomain on groove
  • Once you clicked save, you will be given 2 C name records:
    • If you have your DNS records managed on Cloudflare – you would add a cname record of get.groovemember.net
    • If it’s on groove, then you would add a cname record of get-direct.groovemember.net
groovemember c name records
  • We’re going to use get-direct.groovemember.net as a c name record because the root domain is already connected on groove.
  • Click “back to domain list”
  • You want to go to your root domain here in order to add the c name record, click “edit” to add the c name record.
add c name record to groovemember
  • Click on “add record”:
    • under type: select c name
    • name: it would be members (so the URL would end up being members.vovideochallenge.com)
    • in content: paste in get-direct.groovemember.net
    • press save
c name record on groove's server
  • Under proxy, click enable and update.
enable proxy on c name record groovemember

Head to the GrooveMember app:

  • In content, click on Memberships.
  • I’ve created a test membership site here already.
  • So under “Actions”, click on settings.
setting custom domain via groovemember
  • Under “custom domain”, click on the drop down and you should be able to see the subdomain we just created.
  • Select it and click update settings.

Creating a GrooveMember Portal subdomain On Groove’s Servers

Now If you wanted to portal sub-domain URL i.e. portal.yourcoursename.com, it’s the same process.

The only difference is that your subdomain name is portal.

  • Repeat the same steps and “add a domain”
  • Under domain url: portal.yourcoursename.com
  • Under which app would you like to use this URL for? select GrooveMember (Portal)
  • Would you like us to host your domain for you? “No thanks” again
  • Click Save
  • Head back to the root domain and click edit
  • Add a c name record for GrooveMember.
  • Click on “add record”:
    • under type: select c name
    • name: portal (so the URL would end up being portal.coursename.com)
    • in content: paste in get-direct.groovemember.net
    • press save
  • Under proxy, click enable.

Head back to GrooveMember, click portals:

  • Under “Actions”, click on settings,
  • Under “custom domain” you should be able to see the subdomain we just created for the portal. Select it and click update settings.
  • To retrieve your portal link, just head back to content > portals:
    • Under the actions, drop down arrow > click login link
    • This will copy the link and you can just open a new tab in your browser and press control V to paste it.

If you don’t know how to create a portal login, watch the video below:

GrooveMember Subdomain URL On Cloudflare

Back when Groove was first launched, you had to connect your custom domains via Cloudflare.

So if your domain is connected via Cloudflare, you would repeat process BUT add the c name record on Cloudflare.

It’s still the same process, you still need to add your subdomain on Groove.

However you will be given different c name records to add on Cloudflare.

  • Click “Add domain”
  • domain URL: members.groovesharefunnels.com
  • Which app is this for: GrooveMember (membership)
  • Under “Would you like us to host your site for you?”, “no thanks”
  • Press save.

Now we’re going to create a CNAME record of get.groovemember.net on Cloudflare and ensure that Flexible SSL is enabled.

Let’s login to Cloudflare:

  • Select the domain you want to add groovemember.
  • In my case, it’s groovesharefunnels.com
  • Click on DNS icon (on top)
  • Click + add record
    • Type: cname,
    • name: members.groovesharefunnels.com – it would be members.yourcoursename.com for you
    • Target: paste in get.groovemember.net
    • Leave TTL to auto and click on proxied status to orange cloud
    • Save button
add c name record groovemember on cloudflare
  • Head back up top and click on SSL / TLS icon here
  • I currently have it set to full, so I would click flexible.

Now with Cloudflare, it can take anywhere from a few minutes and up to 24 hours to connect to GrooveFunnels’ servers.

From my testing, it took less than 2 minutes for Cloudflare to connect to Groove’s servers.

Just double check that you have the sub-domain name entered correctly.

Head to GrooveMember app:

  • In content, click on Memberships.
  • In your membership, head to “Actions”, click on settings,
  • Under “custom domain” you should be able to see the subdomain we just created in Cloudflare
  • Select it and click update settings.

To create a subdomain for GrooveMember portals in Cloudflare, it’s the same process but you will give your subdomain name: portal instead of members.
